Mac OS X Speciality level out of ten: Restoring a Minimized Window from Dock I've been searching for a keystroke to restore an application or a window of an application that I've minimized Command-M to the Dock. With some applications Command-1 will work, but not often.

Clicking the orange icon in the top left of the window bar? For me, that minimises the running application down into the Dock. To restore it, I click it in the Dock Guessing you've tried that, but asking just in case.

Just tried it myself as well. Minimizing using the orange button on top left indeed. Clicking on the icon in the Dock doesn't do anything. Although this works, this is not the default on my system. When I minimize the Safari window I'm now using to write this answer, I just need to click it once from the Dock to have it restored.
Marking it as a bug, but I'm not sure when someone will get to it. Personally, I have no idea what could be causing that yet. If you have the time to try it, grab the latest nightly build download locations are listed on our front page , and give that a shot. It has lots of bug fixes for various things, and there's a small chance this is fixed in it.
Command-Tab to minimized windows
When I write programs for Windows using VB, if a program is minimised and restored, you not only have to make the window 'normal' again from minimised but also have to change the Z order - it might be why the window is restored but behind other windows? Witch's support got back to me super-quickly. It seems to be an Apple-feature, that if I do something with the dock and hold in the SHIFT-key, - then it will happen in grandma-tempo. So by switching the shortcut-key to something that didn't involve shift, then it's working.

Addition1 And when installing Witch, - be sure to log out and log in afterwards. After I did that 48 hours after installation , then it started working exactly as I wanted it to. So I rarely minimize anything any longer. I have setup shortcuts, so when I press:. So I just went through the 10 programs I swap between the most, and setup those shortcuts.
